Tandem Skydiving FAQs
Your Questions Answered
General First Jump Questions
Do I have to be 18?
Yes, you need to be 18 to sign our waiver and agreement. This waiver means giving up some legal rights, so it can’t be signed by anyone under 18 or by someone for you.
Do I have to sign a waiver?
Yes, everyone diving with Skydive The Volcano needs to sign a liability waiver. Since you have to be 18 to sign this kind of agreement, that’s also the minimum age to skydive with us.
Is there a weight limit?
Yes, we have a weight limit for tandem students set at 100 kilos / 220lb. If you’re over 200 lbs, we’ll also consider height-to-weight proportions. Every student is assessed individually to ensure the safety of both the participant and the instructor, as our equipment is designed to safely support specific weights.
WE STRICTLY DO NOT ACCOMMODATE INDIVIDUALS EXCEEDING 220 LBS. IF YOU BOOK THROUGH A BOOKING SERVICE AND WEIGH OVER 220 LBS ON ARRIVAL, YOU WILL BE PROVIDED A REFUND LESS THE 20% BOOKING FEE.
If I'm not able to jump, will I get a refund?
If skydives are booked directly through us and you are unable to skydive due to weather, weight, or if you cancel with more than 24 hours’ notice, you will be provided a 100% refund. If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, you will be charged a $100 late cancellation fee.
If you book through a booking service and are canceled due to weather, weight, or with more than 24 hours’ notice, we will refund your booking agent for all money we have received, and you will obtain your refund from that agent.
If you do not provide 24 hours notice of cancellation of your jump, we retain $100 of the amount we received from your booking agent and refund the balance.
Can I bring my own camera or go-pro?
No. Skydivers must have completed at least 200 jumps before they can bring a camera along. Introducing a camera to a tandem jump poses significant safety risks for both the participant and the tandem instructor. There’s a potential for the camera to interfere with the parachute deployment or cause other complications. However, you can purchase a photo & video package!
What kind of clothes should I wear?
Opt for comfy sneakers and season-appropriate attire: shorts and a T-shirt for warmer days, and long pants with a cozy long-sleeved shirt when it’s cooler. Choose clothes you won’t mind getting a bit messy. We will provide goggles suitable for those who wear contact lenses or glasses.
What about if I wear glasses or contacts?
Not to worry! We provide goggles designed to fit over your glasses, or you can comfortably keep your contacts in.
What if I am too old or in poor physical condition?
Skydiving isn’t a fit for everyone. It’s an active endeavor, not just a leisure ride. We enforce specific weight limitations. If you’re uncertain about your suitability for skydiving, it’s best to consult a medical expert before making a reservation.
What is the training for a tandem?
You’ll receive an overview of what tandem skydiving entails and guidance on how to act during the jump. Following that, we’ll introduce you to the equipment, explain the freefall, parachute glide, and landing procedures. After these briefings, we’ll get you aboard an airplane as quickly as possible.
How long will this all take?
With the training, preparation, aircraft ride, jump, and video distribution, you should plan on being here for about 1/2 a day. Usually, we will have you on your way home in 2-3 hours. We place a high value on your time and know that many of you are here on vacation. Please know we will get you on your way as expeditiously as we possibly can!
What if the parachute does not open?
Although parachute malfunctions are uncommon, they can occur. Every sport parachute system is equipped with two parachutes: a primary and a backup reserve. Our tandem instructors are extensively trained in handling emergencies and operating the parachute system. The reserve parachute’s flight and landing characteristics are nearly identical to the primary one.
Will I get sick?
Some people get a little motion sickness during the parachute ride, but typically not during freefall. If you’re prone to motion sickness, consider taking Gravol or Dramamine before your jump. It’s also beneficial to discuss any concerns with your instructor. We can maneuver the parachute to give you a thrilling roller-coaster-like experience or ensure a gentle, steady glide based on your preference. Just communicate your comfort level to your instructor!
How hard will I land?
Modern ‘Ram-Air’ (square) parachutes function similarly to airplanes or gliders, gracefully sailing through the sky. They have the capability to decelerate significantly, and given their size, tandem parachutes are notably stable and forgiving. While extremely hard landings are a rarity and injuries even rarer, they are not impossible.
Do you jump in all weather?
No, we won’t conduct jumps during rain, strong winds, or when cloud conditions do not allow. We will assess the weather on the day of your jump and let you know if we are unable to skydive. However, we can proceed with your training, ensuring you’re prepared to jump immediately on a suitable day. Weather can introduce unforeseen delays, so we appreciate your patience. Our priority is to ensure a swift and safe skydiving experience for you.
Are customers expected to tip their instructors?
Tipping isn’t mandatory or anticipated, but if you believe they’ve done an outstanding job, it’s always a welcomed gesture.
